The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum. It houses various medieval treasures and spectacular architechture. Located in Fort Tryon Park in the 200s of Manhattan, it's more than worth the 1/2 hour subway ride. |

While the art collection is superb, we took most of our pictures of the outside. It was so refreshing to surface from the subway and encounter all this. |

The building stones were taken from Europe in crates and painstakingly reassembled piece by piece. It sounds a little weird, but the effect is lovely. |

But the best part is the garden where they've cultivated a variety of plants used in medieval cusine and medicine. Here, for instance, is a fig tree. |
